Week 3 Information Update

Hello students and parents,

This week in gym, 3rd-8th graders are starting their cross country unit in gym. We will be walking and running around campus as well as the local neighborhood as part of this unit. The students will have the opportunity to work on cardio, as well as learn about situational awareness during this unit. We will continue this unit until late October or when the weather gets too cold. PreK3-2nd graders are going to be playing many different team-based games until the end of October. Students started this week by playing a game called “treasure island” and they had a lot of fun!

In Music, PreK3-2nd graders are continuing to learn how to sing and play the percussion buckets, while the older grade levels in that category are starting to learn musical symbols and notation. In addition, we are continuing our listening assignments. 3rd-5th graders are learning how to read quarter notes and quarter rests, and will start having to study for their first playing test this week. Students will also have a music quiz soon on the quarter note / quarter rest material.

In Health class, students are continuing our nutrition unit by taking notes. Students finished up the first part of their nutrition quiz last week and will be starting a fun nutrition project this week and for the next few weeks.

In choir, notices have been posted to join the choir! I am hoping to get some students to join this week!

In the Music Theory / Composition elective, students have begun to listen to and hear the difference between major and minor chords played on the piano. In addition, students have also been learning certain note intervals like the P4, P5, TT and min3, etc. Students are actively using noteflight (a music composition software) to compose their own pieces of music. Students also took their first music theory quiz last week.
