I am Mrs. Mary Ellen Gold, 2nd Grade teacher at St. Elizabeth of the Trinity. This is my 26th year teaching in this building, and I have lots of wonderful memories of our students over the years. I love my 2nd graders–and I love watching my former 2nd graders grow. This is also my parish, and I am delighted to be part of the St. Elizabeth of the Trinity family.
2nd Grade is an exciting year, as we grow stronger as readers, writers, problem solvers, scientists, and artists. I am honored to help our students get closer to God through prayer and through preparation for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion.
Kindness and respect are of great importance in our class, and mistakes are opportunities to learn.
Thank you to our supportive school families (past and present) who make this such a great community.
Here is some general information about 2nd grade:
- Homework every night is a math page, either practicing a skill we learned in class or reviewing something previously learned.
- Students have a reading log to complete as many days as possible. It should be returned at the beginning of the week for the previous week.
- Weekly spelling tests are usually on Thursdays.
- Gym is on Mondays and Wednesdays. Students wear gym uniforms.
- Library is on Thursdays. Students return books and can take out one or two. (Only two books at a time are allowed to be checked out.)
- Other “specials” are Art (Mondays), Technology (Tuesdays), Spanish (Tuesdays), Caring Classroom Community (Thursdays), Music (Fridays)
- We go to Mass most Thursdays. Beginning in 2nd grade, we say the Rosary in church every first Friday of the month and every Friday in October and May.
- Report cards are standards-based (not letter grades), similar to 1st grade but with 2nd grade standards.
