Classroom News 09/24

Dear Fourth Grade Families,

What a busy week! We had some very special visitors today!  Thank you to everyone that came today.  We loved having you!  We also celebrated International Peace Day on Monday, and we had a class discussion about being peacemakers and wrote PEACE acrostic poems.  Also, this week we continued our journey with Number the Stars.  We are planning on having our next test Thursday.  We have finished writing our first nonfiction essay about natural disasters, and they are hanging up in the hallway.  We went through the writing process, which means we brainstormed, wrote rough drafts, edited, revised, edited, wrote the final copy, edited, and then published it and hung them in the hallways.  In math, our next chapter is about multiplication.  Please practice math facts at least five minutes a day.  We have also begun Bubble Gum Math Fluency.  Students will earn a pack of sugarless gum with every five math fact timed tests that they get one hundred percent correct.  Each test has 15 facts, and the students have one minute to answer each one accurately.  In order to be considered fluent in math facts, students must achieve automaticity.  This means that students should be able to answer or recall each math fact in three seconds.  If they do not, they are not fluent.  Please work each day with your students so that they can attain this skill.  Math fact knowledge is an essential skill to help students succeed.  We continue to learn about plants and animals and will soon be planting our own plants in the classroom.  In religion, we have started learning about the Beatitudes.  Next Thursday, fourth grade will be hosting Mass.  Have a wonderful weekend!

YOUR CHILDREN HAVE EARNED A CLASS REWARD!  THEY WILL HAVE AN ELECTRONIC GAME DAY ON THURSDAY, OCTOBER 1ST.  PERMISSION SLIPS WILL BE GOING HOME ON MONDAY.  PLEASE SIGN AND RETURN THEM BY WEDNESDAY.  WAY TO GO, FOURTH GRADE!
