This was our first full week of school and it was great! Students took their diagnostic I-Ready this week, and we will begin to work on I-Ready assignments in class. We have started our novel study of Number the Stars by Lois Lowry. We begin by building background knowledge of World War II because this is when the novel takes palce. We have begun our September research project, which is about scientists. Students are learning about the writing process- brainstorming, rough draft, editing, revision, final copy and publication. In math we are working on place value and different expressions of numbers. We also began our Bubble Gum Math activity. Students will be tested on their math facts throughout the week. When they pass a times table, they move on to the next level. We all started at x3 today. I gave students a pass on x0, x1, and x2 facts. When students pass five tests completely, they will get a reward of a pack of gum. Students will bring their gum home, unopened. Please practice math facts at least five times a week with your child. In Religion, we continue to learn about how God loves us. We have elected our class mascot. The fourth graders broke up into three campaigns for the final election. They worked on a campaign speech and made campaign posters for their respective candidates. They gave their speeches to the second, third and fifth grade. All four classes voted for their candidate of choice. This year fourth grade’s class mascot is Tea Tea the T-Rex! We also took a virtual tour of Hawaii and wrote postcards to our Faith Partners in Kindergarten to tell them what we learned about Hawaii today. Have a great weekend!
