Classroom News 05/09

Dear Parents,

A HUGE THANK YOU for all the wonderful gifts I have received this week.  I love the orchids, candy and thoughts that you have given me.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.  Also, a huge shout out to our fourth graders who were in the school spelling bee today!  They did a great job!  Fourth graders are now published authors!  W got the published copy of the book this week.  If you ordered a copy, it went home this week.  It is not too late to purchase a copy of the book.  Flyers went home this week with directions, if you so wish.   We took our math test this week and students will be bringing them home today.  They may make corrections if they wish and turn it back in on Monday.  The tests should be signed, regardless and returned to school on Monday. We will begin our new chapter next week.  It is about area and perimeter.  In language arts, we continue to work on our essays and work in small reading groups.  We are also still adding different types of poems to our books.  In science, we continue to explore space, the final frontier.  Students witness the May Crowning this week, and then we did a cute craft for Mary and the May Crowning with our Faith Buddies.

,ASSIGNMENTS: As part of our routine, students write assignments that are posted on the board at the beginning of the day, the first thing they do. Sometimes they may need to change them throughout the day, but the first thing they are supposed to do is fill out their planner. From now on, I will be checking planners sporadically. Your student is expected to fill out their planner accurately and every day. Please check at home to see if this is actually happening, and if not, please let me know. Every Monday, two iXL assignments in math, 4th grade level, and two iXL assignments in language arts, 4th grade level, are assigned and are due the following Monday. Please note that because students have one week to complete their assignments, late assignments will not be accepted. I-Ready homework is also assigned Ion Mondays. Students must complete and pass two math lessons and two reading lessons each week by Friday. They cannot make them up the following week. Assignments from that week will not be credited the following week. Math workbook pages must be completed and in school the following day. Late work will not be accepted. Reading logs are due on Mondays and are due the following Monday. Math Fact Fluency logs will also be due on Mondays and are due the following Monday. If a student does not have homework, a missing homework receipt is sent home. Please sign this receipt and return it the following day. Test corrections are allowed for half credit. They must be made and turned in the following day. They will not be accepted after that. All tests must be signed and returned the following day. They will usually have a stamp on them.

Uniforms
As a reminder, please make sure your student is in compliance with the school’s uniform policy.

Please dress for recess!
We go outside when it is very cold, up to 20 degrees. While it is warm now, it will not stay that way. Please make sure your student is warm enough for outdoor play. Dress him/her in layers, including a hat, gloves, and scarves, if necessary. Thank you.
